Death Nature

Five years ago I develop a project called Death Nature. This was my thesis project to graduate from college, in the Art faculty.

Death Nature was born with the idea of bringing the main physical symbolic notion of an animal interacting with the significant characteristics that define an animal as one, into a piece of clothes full of concept and dialect.

I used more than 100m of unprocessed wool yarn. I had to carded and combed so the wool could be soft and easier to knit. When starting the design process I designed and worked straight into the mannequin. I built a basic taffetan so I can develop my design from the main knit.

It was a very interesting way from the design process as well as the concept. Death nature most of the times is portrait in painting as a reference of sometime organic, alive or even death, but It is important to consider that at all views about Death nature end being as a symbol of life.

I made use of the fashion editorial created for my project as if the pictures were paintings. The spectator will interconnect the symbols in the "painting " so they can created their own narrative about what they are seeing. Symbols will stayed as themselves but signs will be perceived in another different way.

The main purpose of the project was to translate the difference between symbols and signs through the functionality of clothes. Clothes been the result of a concept applied to something tangible but not recognized as their original form (sing) but a new concept develop from a symbol converting and transforming Death Nature into a new dialect.
